American Paddlefish or Spoonbill
(Polyodon spathula)
Missouri's State Aquatic Animal, one of the largest freshwater fish in North America. Commonly reaches 5’ or more in length and can weigh more than 60 lbs.
Feeds on zooplankton. Populations have declined due to over harvesting, sedimentation, and river modification.
